Karen Sherper Rohs started playing piano at a young age, first learning from her mother, local teachers, Milous Ferlick, Jean Poole Alderman (Wellesley College, Wellesley, MA) and Peg Holzer (University of Arkansas, Little Rock, AR). Karen first accompanied a youth choir at age 12 at her church and then accompanied choirs, jazz, and bluegrass bands in high school. Karen performed with the Chamber Music Society in college. She continues to play for services and music concerts at local venues.
Karen has taught piano to people ranging in age from 3-years-old to adult and from beginning to intermediate students. In addition to roughly fifteen years experience teaching piano and studying piano pedagogy at the U of AR, Karen taught Earth Science as a certified teacher for several years and is fascinated by how people learn, always striving to find practices and methods that best fit individual students. Karen believes in students having fun with music and exploring a variety of genres in addition to studying technique, theory, and repertoire. Karen believes music touches people's souls and strives to have all students not only connect with the music, but to convey emotion through the notes into listeners' hearts. |
